Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
2010 Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
Ray Jordan Top 100 Whites
"One of the better chardonnays from this Great Southern producer. The nose strikes with a nutty nuance tinged with a little light stone fruit. The palate is precise and long with stacks of intense drive from the fruit and oak mix supported by excellent fine acid. There is an additional minerally feel through the lines of the palate that stamps the best chardonnays."

"More good Chardonnay from Great Southern. Stonefruit, grapefruit with a lick of dusty spicy oak, its gentle and inviting. A modern style with an appealingly light flinty texture, subtle fresh pineapple flavours, though mainly to citrus, and a dry spicy finish. Love that slight chalkiness on exit. Theres a slight break in the line through the palate, but its fresh, refreshing and such a good drink that you would have to be pretty picky to notice. "

"Great Southern Chardonnay is under-appreciated. I keep saying it, I know, but it’s a great performer down there. Fresh wine, sufficiently moving for me to write ‘mountain stream style’, which means something or other, I’m sure. Cedar and dusty oak skilfully applied, lime-driven citrus fruit and a touch of flinty sulphide complexity. Its light and vivacious, delivering an appealingly cool mouth of flavour with a little winemaker work, but purity of fruit and energy is the main theme. Refreshing. Crisp length. Lovely. "

Jeremy Oliver - The Australian Wine Annual
"Elegant, focused and fruit-driven, with a spicy scent of peach, grapefruit and ginger knit with fresh clove/vanilla oak and backed by nuances of charcuterie meats. It’s smooth and fluffy, with a long, stylish and brightly lit palate of gentle stonefruit, grapefruit flavour and a fine underlying chalkiness, all tied together with tangy, citrusy acids and finishing with charming balance and freshness."

Dr Craig Drummond - On the Grapevine
"It is rich, ripe and complex with aromas of stone fruits and nice nutty oak. The flavours are of grapefruit and peach with a textural mealyness. A background acidity and minerality may give this wine a longer life that your average Aussie Chardonnay – up to 6 or 7 years."

2009 Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
Jeremy Oliver - The Australian Wine Annual
"Smooth, elegant, finely crafted and restrained, with delightful length and balance. A floral bouquet of grapefruit, wheatmeal and smoked bacon backed by vanilla/clove/nutmeg oak precedes a fluffy palate whose gentle presence of juicy melon, peach, pear and grapefruit flavour finishes with charm and finesse."

2009 Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
Gary Walsh The Wine Front
"Lime, lemon barley and clove spiced oak with a touch of peachy richness. It has a slightly thick creamy glossiness thats pulled tight and shapely by fine acidity and a dab of mineral. A lovely wine to drink with a level of sophistication that belies its modest price. Almost a higher rating too, just for the record. "

2008 Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
Stephen Tanzer - International Wine Cellar
" Pale greenish-gold. Spicy citrus and orchard fruits on the nose, with notes of anise and pungent illegal herbs adding complexity. Pliant pear and yellow apple flavors gain firmness with air and take a turn to quince and bitter peach pit, with a sneaky smoky quality emerging on the back half. A tangy mineral note adds lift and cut to the dry, dusty, precise finish. Pretty grown-up in style, showing no easy fruitiness. "

James Halliday - Australian WIne Companion
"Quite a tight and lemony bouquet, with a strong mineral underpinning providing contrast and complexity; the palate is zesty and full of life, with a quartz-like quality to the structure; extremely long, fresh and enticing. "

"Great Southern Chardonnay is very under-rated. Lime, lemon barley and clove spiced oak with a touch of peachy richness. It has a slightly thick creamy glossiness that’s pulled tight and shapely by fine acidity and a dab of mineral. A lovely wine to drink with a level of sophistication that belies its modest price. Almost a higher rating too, just for the record. "

"Chardonnay from the west is nearly always a great drop. Frankland Estate being up with the best. Their climate is tempered by a cool southerly breeze resulting in a long ripening season allowing the grapes to gradually build up in intensity. Serve with fishermans pie."

Ray Jordan - White Top 100
"More fruit driven than some previous vintages but there is still that distinctive grapefruit and cereal mix with some sweeter oak influence. The palate is rich and creamy with a fine tightening acid. Nice oak and balance. Lighter style, though, with good length."

2004 Isolation Ridge Chardonnay
Robert Parker - Issue 168
"Drink 2006-2009. Readers looking for a distinctive Chardonnay that smells of lemon juice, orange blossom, and a hint of sealing wax should check out the 2004 Chardonnay Isolation Ridge. Some oak is utilized, but it is completely concealed by the wines minerality, precision, power, and length. It should be drinkable for 1-3 years."

Robert Parker - "The Wine Advocate"
"Apple blossom aromas as well as hints of freshly mowed hay and earth jump from the glass of the elegant, medium to full-bodied, ripe, nicely delineated 2003 Chardonnay Isolation Ridge. It should drink well for 2-3 years."

Joe Czerwinski, Senior Editor - "Wine Enthusiast"
"Starts off slowly, but opens considerably with air - so much so that it is probably worth decanting as you might a bottle of young white Burgundy. It is buttery and full, yet possesses a stony mineral quality that gives it balance. Initial peppery-spicy notes on the finish smooth out the longer it sits in the glass.
