"At the entry level, Frankland Estates 2011 Rocky Gully Riesling is once again marvelous. The winery believes that 2011 vintage was fantastic. The 2010 release (18.3 points) was outstanding and this wine is in the same class. It is soft, light, fresh and modern. It is crisp, young and intense and shows excellent quality lingering fruit and the results of very good wine making. This is delicious now with grilled fish and salad and, despite the sub $20 price, this is a serious wine that will live for 15 years. "

"The Great Southern is one of Australias finest Riesling areas. This one from Frankland Estate captures the style of the regions rieslings precisely as you would expect. It has that almost Germanic spiciness overlaying the more traditional citrus characters of the variety. The palate has a gentle persuasiveness that allows the fruit to float effortlessly to a long finish. Excellent drinking over the next few years."

"A pure riesling with delicate floral aromatics, a touch of lemon sherbet yet more savoury with a distinct pebbly character met with a soft, almost gentle, acidity. Delightful."

"This is softer and more fragrant than its big brothers, the frequently nationally praised Frankland Estate rieslings, and despite the significantly cheaper price point, this has all of the length and appealing flavor nuances of all bar the very best of Australian rieslings. "

"In RECENT years, wineries in southern Western Australia have established their rather austere rieslings as new Australian classics. Rocky Gully, from Frankland Estate, sums up the style at a fair price. Tropical lime and floral aromas have a steely backbone, and the clean, minerally palate has good carry and a firm savoury finish."

"This was the top pick of the rieslings we tasted and it was so good. Typically refreshing varietal characteristics with hints of lemongrass and spice. Delicately perfumed yet richly fruited. A seamless wine with intensity and a long, dry finish."

"Even with the first bite of winter, there’s still nothing more refreshing than a crisp, clean, youthful riesling. This entry-level offering from one of our finest producers is a delight – gentle talc aromas, pure lemon-citrus flavours that are powerful and zippy, finishing dry and zesty."

"The Frankland region on south-west Western Australia is one of the countrys best for riesling. Frankland Estate produces several, from its own and other vineyards. This is its entry-level wine. Its as good as many producers top label. Truly lovely, with straw, dry-herb and pressed wildflower aromas. In the mouth, its intense, tangy and linear with delicacy and a clean, dry but smoothly balanced finish of good length. It has a touch of richness without sacrificing refinement. A fine wine and great value. "

Jane Faulkner - The Age Epicure

"RIESLING lovers will be familiar with Frankland Estate, based in the south-west of Western Australia, as it produces some of the country’s finest. Aside from estate wines, it produces riesling with fruit grown from other vineyards but made with the same attention to detail, such as the Rocky Gully. It’s an entry-level wine but super-fine and beats many at double this price. It’s highly aromatic, with spice and floral notes – even a touch of dried herbs and lemongrass – a requisite minerally edge and some citrus, too. It’s rich, crisp, beautifully balanced and finishes long and dry. Match it with Thai or Vietnamese dishes."

"RIESING is Australia’s best value wine. Truly. And matched to quality. Take Frankland Estate’s Rocky Gully as an example. Aside from the fact this West Australian producer makes some of the most thrilling single-vineyard rieslings, its entry level Rocky Gully, sourced from local fruit, is a beauty. Expect all the vibrancy of a young riesling tempered by quite soft, chalky acidity with a minerally edge, delightful aromatics of dried herbs, lemon grass mixed with spice and floral notes that follow through on the palate. Matches brilliantly to many cuisines, from Thai to Japanese, and also pork"

"Very fresh aromas of citrus fruits and melon, with hints of herbs and white pepper. Pure, juicy and clean, with very good tension to the orange and Meyer lemon flavors and very good back-end cut. Finishes with noteworthy length and precision, repeating the pepper and orange flavors. An excellent value. "

"Even the entry-level wine is impressive in this great vintage in Frankland Estate. It is well made and has a reasonable dose of sweetness, but this is held in check by its acidity. Flavours of honey, fresh lemons, zesty limes and layered minerality linger on a long finish."

"Pale yellow. Vibrant, sharply focused lemon, lime and quinine aromas reminded me of the platonic gin and tonic. Clean, sharply focused and pure, offering energetic citrus and green apple flavors and a late note of anise. Very refreshing riesling, with excellent finishing lift and length."
