"The winemaking team believes that stylistically this is the best wine under this label so far. The winemakers are transferring to organic practices in the vineyards and reducing the yields, among other things, in what they call, a work in progress as they continuously refine or hone their views on what will provide the style in their vision. There is quality old vine fruit (which, on unmasking, turned out to be only 15 years) of good length and from an area that is good for shiraz. This has good wine making and subtle oak handling. The notes read, lively, spicy, dense and long cool-area shiraz. The tannins are fine and persistent and the aftertaste, from deep down in your tummy, calls out softly for you to please send down some more. This is marvelous value, especially so for a WA wine. "

Peter Forrestal - The Sunday Times Top Drops

"Here is the best entry-level shiraz from this Frankland River producer: plush, cool blackberry and dark plum flavours, rich, ripe and concentrated, neatly balanced and marvelously approachable."

Ray Jordan - The West Australian

"Ripe spicy shiraz from Frankland River. It is medium to full-bodied, soft and generous with an excellent tight frame of oak. Rich succulent palate with fine tannins and fine-grained oak working with slightly savoury characters. Excellent wine for now or over the next few years."

"Smoky dark fruits, violet, tobacco and licorice on the nose, with a more exotic candied berry quality emerging with aeration; this smells a lot like a wine from the northern Rhone. Smooth and subtly complex, with floral-accented flavors of black raspberry, minerals and black pepper. Not a lush style of Australian red by any stretch. Finishes with good peppery cut and a lingering floral quality. This is an excellent value. "

"There was a time when Frankland Estates rieslings were superb, the red wine dull; now the reds are in the same quality league and compelling value for money. The fragrant bouquet offers spice and polished leather aromas, the palate a lively bundle of red and black fruits, Asian spices and fine tannins. "

"This is the second label of Frankland Estate in southern WA. It has some peppery, earthy aromas ans a slight feral edge to plumy fruit. It is not quite squeaky clean but it has personality. Medium-bodied, easy in texture and soft in tannins, it finishes lip-smacking and savoury. "

"From one of Western Australias boondock appellations, Frankland River, Rocky Gully’s 2004 Shiraz/Viognier (96% of the former and 4% of the latter) boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a flamboyant, exuberant bouquet consisting of flowers, lychee nuts, and cassis. This fruit-forward, medium to full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, captivating Australian red will not make old bones, but will provide immense pleasure over the next 3-4 years. Drink 2006-2010."

"This beautifully balanced, unwooded red (it has a splash of the white grape, viognier, a la Cote Rotie) offers a complex nose of roasted game and violets, smooth sweet tannins and a startling 'yum' factor for a wine of this price."

"Bright as a button and bursting with peppery, blackberry fruit, this cracking wine is the perfect advert for juicy Frankland Shiraz."
