Frankland Estate Riesling 2021
Smells of wet stone and talc mixed with yellow citrus peel and floral tones jump from the glass. A juicy crystalline riesling on both the nose and palate. The mouth feel is textural and juicy with a long finish of fruit and rounded acidity. The soft and delicate approach builds with a combination of lime and bath salts. Delicate crystalline flavours on the palate show a dry precise riesling with texture, spice and delicate acidity that give the wine focus and fantastic length. Consistent with the now well-established Rieslings from Frankland Estate this wine displays the balance of pristine fruit flavours and precise and delicate acidity, medalled with generosity of fruit, resulting in an exceptional wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared with the confidence it will continue to develop further complexity over the next 10 years.
This wine was made from 100% riesling grown in family’s estate vineyards. A selection of small ferments was made from parcels of fruit harvested in some younger vines planted in 2006 on a high ironstone rocky ridge in the ironstone “coffee rock” that is classic soil from the property at Frankland Estate. This combines with some of Frankland Estate’s original parcels of riesling planted in 1988.
Grapes are pressed immediately on arrival at the winery with the juice left to settle in tank over night before being racked. The wine was then fermented in stainless steel tanks at relatively low temperatures (less than 14 deg C) over 4-6 weeks with minimal intervention from our winemakers in order to obtain the purest expression of the pristine, organically grown fruit. The wine was then left on its fermentation lees prior to bottling.

“Extraordinary scented aromas of fresh lemon juice and bath salts. The palate is rounded and soft, with good weight and integrated acidity. The approachable nature of this wine makes it both inviting and engaging. Highly enjoyable.” 92 pts

"For an estate-wide expression, 2017 Frankland Estate Riesling offers quality and value hand-in-hand. It's a limey, bright riesling of zingy acidity and crunchy texture. The perfume is voluminous in Thai spice, mixed citrus character and dried apple scents. The palate is bracing with its citrus tang, but finishes with a pool of gently sweet, mouth-filling fruitiness. It's one of those summery whites that is best suited to a deep chill and consumed while your legs are dangling in a swimming pool."

"Scents of lime blosson and orange sherbet practically erupt from the glass. The exuberant 2017 Riesling is medium-bodied with slightly rounded edges and hints at red berries to go along with all of the expected citrus and green apple notes. It's approachable now but should continue to drink well for a decade or more." 91 pts

"Pale colour and a fresh Kaffir lime leaf and subtly tropical fruit aroma - passionfruity. The palate is juicy and orange-citrusy with again a twist of passionfruit. Delicious soft fruit and a smidgin of sweetness. Quite good intensity and purity of fruit. Lovely drinking." 93 pts

"Purity is the name of the game here. Intensity too. This strikes the nail square on. Lime juice, lime rind, bath salts, musk and mineral. It builds up a juicy head of flavour. It will age well but it's lovely to drink right now." 91 pts

"Some colour development, but not alarming. A wine of impeccable bloodlines and breeding, not a hair out of place, nor a crease in its clothing. The young rieslings from all parts of Great Southern are a pleasure to do business with. Citrus, apple and silvery acidity are as refreshing as they are cleansing." 95 pts

"A delightful citrusy, appley nose with some stone fruit in the background. Complex, textured and layered example with good development potential. Drink now or within 10-15 years." 95pts

White peaches and citrus blossoms, an open and complex nose. Palate-weight is matched with lemony acidity - ripe, and driven at once. Approachable, no doubting its capacity to age, but hard to imagine it looking better than it does now.

A beautifully intense yet ethereal nose to this exemplary riesling with limes, lemon pith, lime leaves and hints of green mangoes. The palate has a seamless build of smooth-honed fruit that follows the same, citrus and stone-fruit thread as seen on the nose. Just superb in every way. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 94pts

This is an excellent estate riesling, boasting ripeness and with that, the sort of succulent fruit that the Australian obsession with pH/acidity seldom facilitates. Talc, bath salts and grapefruit pulp, sure. The usual. Tingly. Jittering with energy. Yet the streamlined juiciness, pulling the saliva across the mouth while instigating thirst and hunger, is the sign of a versatile, food-friendly wine. Excellent. Drinks like a fine-herbe German.

Totally captivating from the outset. Lime juice, kaffir leaf and the suggestion of something a tad sweeter – palm sugar, even. But this doesn't translate to the palate, which is deliciously zingy and flavourful, those exotic notes echoed. 94pts

Rich in the mouth with the floral stepping back on the palate and much more of the apples, pears and peaches taking the stage. I would advise getting a little lively with your food matches, there’s plenty of flavour and weight to work with and also crisp acidity to keep it all fresh. Start marinating stuff and chuck it on the grill, let your inner Jamie Oliver fly with big squeezes of citrus and freshly chopped herbs and serve with a big glass of this.

This offers bright fresh lemon and grapefruit aromas with some mineral and crushed stone as well as stone fruits. The smooth texture is alluring and the concentrated grapefruit and peach flavors hold fresh. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 93 points

Takes only a millisecond, once you taste the wine, for the mouth to flood with juicy lime flavours plus splashes of tropical fruits. Totally delicious now, but has the structure to develop well into the next decade. 95 pts
